Our Owner-Operator Specializes in Refurbished Furniture and Homemade Gifts in Standish, ME

Eric Rollins, founder and owner-operator of Hometown Furnishing Co. in Standish, ME, has always been passionate about woodworking, business, and helping people. Starting in 2008, Eric honed his craft in his garage to be close to his family. Eric’s work included refurbishing old, outdated furniture to pay for the bills and making handmade Christmas gifts for friends and family. Today, Eric still does much of his work from that same garage and a new 1,200-square-foot barn built on his property.

Opening Our Locally Owned, Family-Operated Home Furnishings Store

Eric and his wife Sandra have also opened a 7,000-square-foot retail store in the center of Standish, 30 minutes from Portland, ME, which provides a place to showcase his work and meet with clients. The store also provides 50 local craftsmen, artisans, and collectors space to display and sell their work. As a family-owned and operated business owner, husband, father, and grandfather, Eric understands that life can get busy, and if you don’t make spending time with your family a priority, you’ll miss it.

About the Tompson House, Our Retail Store and Local Landmark

Hometown Furnishing Co. is located in a 200+ year-old large white house, referred to by the locals as the Tompson House. To get the correct history of the Tompson House, we went straight to the Standish Historical Society. We found that William Tompson built the house in 1801 on property given to him by his father, Reverend John Tompson, the first minister of Pearsontown. Standish Village was a stagecoach hub in the days before the railroad came to Sebago Lake Village. The Tompson House was an ideal location to cater to travelers as five routes passed by it.

The Renovation of the Tompson House

The house stayed in the Tompson Family until 1969, when it was bought by (George?) Twombley. It was then extensively renovated and housed the Standish Telephone Company. The building you see today is primarily a result of this renovation - with some changes made by each successive owner, the last three being restaurants. Hometown Furnishing Co. has made minor modifications to the Tompson House since taking over. We hope you appreciate stepping back in time as you climb the steep old stairs, walk along the wide plank floors laid with square nails, feel a bounce in your step on the 3rd-floor ballroom dance floor, or stop in one of the many vendor rooms filled with all kinds of goodies.
